The Charity Fund HOPE worldwide – Moscow in collaboration with the Moscow Education department decided to establish the program “Day of Hope” at the Moscow orphanages. The program is to be held monthly on one of the Saturdays. The idea of it originated from the annual Children Sports Festival “Hope”. Many volunteers made friends with orphans at the Sports Festival and wished to help them and keep in touch during the year. Volunteers wanted to become real friends for the orphans. Friends to trust and rely on even after the graduation from school, friends to share joy and grief with through their difficult lives.

The program “Day of Hope” was held on the 10th of October 2001 for the first time. Almost 2000 volunteers took part in it and made it a very special day for 2000 children from 30 orphanages. The program included sports games, contests, board games, quizzes and what most importantly volunteers and children had time to talk to each other.
