For two months HOPE worldwide – Russia organized and hosted Christmas and New Years
parties for orphans, handicapped children and needy seniors.
HOPE staff and volunteers prepared the celebrations with enthusiasm. Programs were diverse,
bright, full of surprises, games, and of course lots of gifts, sweets, and great fellowship.
We managed to celebrate with:
50 handicapped children in the Marfino district (Moscow)
34 children on long-term medical treatment in the Speranvky Hospital
120 lonely pensioners and WWII veterans
25 people from the Society of Handicapped People
73 adults and children who visit the HOPE Center in the Marfino district
Children got the chance to meet Santa Claus and try on different costumes. Older participants got
to enjoy watching a weight-lifting show where Russian heroes bent steel rods and other
interesting tricks that amazed the audience. Also, athletes shared about a how to live a healthy
Children in one of the orphanages readily welcomed the youth rap group “Point of View”. Alexander
and Timur attended the HOPE worldwide music studies program where they mastered sound
recording. They volunteered for the celebration and performed a few tracks of their own.
Some children from the orphanage appeared to be interested in hip hop and writing their own songs
and music too. They were invited to come to the HOPE Center where they could make professional
recordings of their tracks and further develop their skills.
Similar programs were arranged in orphanages in the Vladimir and Tver Regions where volunteers
brought Christmas greetings and presents to the children.
Through the joint efforts of the volunteers and the money they raised, medicine, hygiene products
and Christmas gifts for 81 children in an orphanage in Torzhok were purchased. The orphanage also
received heaters because their premises were so cold that the children had to wear winter clothes
while sleeping. Volunteers also collected winter clothes, hygiene products, children’s books, and
games for 48 needy families in Tver Region.
The Old Friends’ Home celebrated New Years 2011 in a traditional way at one festive event.
Everyone cooked something special and opened champagne to usher in the New Year. There were
continuous toasts, New Years wishes, and grateful words throughout the evening.
Even those with health problems due to old age felt compelled to participate in the karaoke and
dancing. Everything can be forgotten at such moments, a soul becomes younger and feet break into
dance. The seniors welcomed Santa Claus with the enthusiasm of little children, and everybody
wanted to get a present from him and participate in various contests.
Extracts from interviews with volunteers:
“Thank you (HOPE worldwide – Russia) very much for your help in organizing this
celebration for the children. Everything was first class. I’m overwhelmed with emotions. We
didn’t want to leave. These children are so charming, open, and talkative. They liked the
celebration, the concert, the games, the sweets and everything very much.” -Elena
Last year new volunteers joined the ranks of “Angels of Hope”. Not only did they sacrifice their
money to buy presents, but more importantly, they gave their time and built relationships with
the children who miss real fellowship very much.
We would like to express our gratitude to each volunteer, to everyone who
sacrificed their time, efforts, and money and who refused to be indifferent and got actively
involved in the preparation and implementation of these events.
Special thanks to IKSS Group of Companies and to Alexander Zaborin personally for his long-term
sponsorship of our New Years celebrations for the needy, and also to the employees of the
