On May 8th, HOPE worldwide – Russia organized a festive program to congratulate veterans of WWII and express their personal gratitude for the courage they demonstrated in the war.
Two generations met during the program, which was very touching. On the one hand there were people who withstood the difficult trials of WWII, and on the other hand young people who had just started their journey through life.
Bringing together the HOPE staff, volunteers, and children who take part in HOPE’s programs allowed us to create a family atmosphere for the festive evening.
Volunteers (Nikolay Zhdanov, Svetlana Shcadrina, Inna Samaneva, Fltxandra Moskaleva) presented WWII songs “Alesha”, “Victory Day” and others, which they sang together with the veterans.
Girls from the Kids’ Club/City of HOPE Music Studio organized a quartet and sang the song “For Life” to express their gratitude and congratulations to the veterans.
Many of the veterans cried while listening to the songs, which reminded them of what it was like then and what it’s like now.
Some of the veterans also shared stories which touched everyone who was there that evening, because the peace that we enjoy today is all thanks to the veterans’ sacrifice many years ago.
The children who took part in HOPE’s “Cozy Home” program prepared special cards for the veterans and presented them to the veterans along with flowers at the event.
To close the festivities we had a time of fellowship, drank tea, and ate cookies. It was interesting and inspiring for the children to get to know the veterans.
Let us all remember the great sacrifice of these veterans and of those veterans who couldn’t be with us today to celebrate their victory.
Happy Victory Day Veterans!
