On November 6th, 2005 we were participating with over 635,000 other runners in one of the world’s best known races, the ING Marathon of New York.
This 42 km race in the heart of New York City was run by a diverse group of 7 brave men and 1 fearless woman. This international crew was made up of runners from countries all over the world, including Russia, the Netherlands, and Finland. They have been training relentlessly in the smoggy streets of Moscow and the wet polders of Noord Holland for the last six months to prepare for this epic contest.
Before preparing for this marathon every one of them thought 10 km was a long way to run, and a 42 km race only seemed possible in wildest imaginations.
Even more important is the fact that they were traveling across the globe together to sweat and compete and exhaust minds and bodies in a common endeavor with one goal in mind: to reach the finish line in Central Park as a team.
To make this effort something that will be meaningful for those who do not have the opportunity to go to New York and run. The participiant wanted to use this endeavor to raise money for orphans all over the nation of Russia.
Helping children today, we create a better tomorrow.
